Securing LinkedIn Jobs: Essential Strategies for Standing Out to Recruiters
LinkedIn is much more than just an online resume; your profile is a networking tool that shows recruiters and hiring managers a glimpse of you personally and a comprehensive overview of you professionally. It is an innovative way to represent your experiences, skills, objectives, knowledge, and what your interests are, all within a professional context.
When the LinkedIn CEO was asked, “What is the most important thing about a candidate's profile?” and “How can people make the best use of the platform?” Weiner responded that first and foremost "authenticity" was important. The same is true for recruiters, represent yourself and who you are.
Let recruiters know that you are available for LinkedIn Jobs
If you can announce through LinkedIn that you're looking for a job, without ruffling feathers at your current job, do so. You should also fill out every part of the ‘Career Interests section of your profile while viewing your own profile in “Your Dashboard.” Toggling on the “Let your recruiters know you’re open” tool will make your profile more searchable for recruiters who use LinkedIn potential candidates, LinkedIn also hides the signal from recruiters at your current company or affiliated company recruiters.
Go beyond LinkedIn Jobs
Optimising your profile, connecting on LinkedIn, and engaging with your network is not enough, think about how many Facebook ‘Friends’ you have, how many of them are genuine friends? While you can reach out to many people online, your connections won’t be genuine until you reach out to them on a personal level- you can make a phone call, Skype with them, or arrange a meeting in person.
Donna Serdula, an authority on LinkedIn profiles and author of LinkedIn Profile Optimization for Dummies, sums up your LinkedIn campaign precisely: “It’s true that success on LinkedIn hinges upon an optimised, strategic profile, but that’s not all! In order to be found on LinkedIn, you need a strong, robust network. In order to be seen, you need to have an engaging feed of posts, comments, shares, and articles. To be sought after, you need to add value, inspire others, and have fun.”
You can see your LinkedIn engagement in the 'Activity' section of "Your Dashboard".
