Due to the high volume of applications for a Deckhand received every year, qualifications that would increase your chances of landing an interview include a Certificate I in Maritime Operations (General Purpose Hand) (MAR10318), Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 35 metres Near Coastal) (MAR40618) or a General Purpose Hand Near Coastal Certificate of Competency.
