The Perfect Resume | Handling Unsuccessful Job Emails

When you receive an email rejection always reply to find out why. Many times, you will get a generic answer, however sometimes the recruiter will give you some solid feedback which you can use to make a change.

A simple email response template I recommend is as follows:


Hi [Insert recruiter's first name only],

Thank you for your reply. It is a shame I wasn’t successful as I was hoping to build on my [insert something relevant] experience.

So I can ensure my application aligns to the role if it comes up again, can you please provide me with some feedback about how I can improve my application?

I have attached my resume and cover letter to the email to save you some time.

I look forward to your response.

[Insert your full name]


As Tony Robbins says, decide what you want and act! Notice what is working and what is not! Change your approach until you achieve what you want!

Perhaps you are applying for a position that is a little too out of your league, maybe you appear overqualified, under qualified, perhaps the position went to an internal applicant and you really didn't even have a chance. It might be you are missing a keyword on your resume that they were searching for.
