Dentist resume example

A dentist resume should explain your practice setting, relevant clinical experience and approach to communication. Identify the work you performed and the responsibility you held. Give a prospective employer enough context to understand your contribution without including identifiable patient information or overstating a placement.

Illustrative example: this is fictional wording, not a client resume. Replace the placeholders and include only experience you can support.

Profile

Dentist experienced in [practice setting] with a focus on [relevant area of work]. Communicates clearly with patients, maintains organised clinical records and collaborates with the practice team. Recognises the limits of personal experience and arranges appropriate advice or referral.

Experience: Dentist, [Practice], [dates]

  • Delivered assigned care within personal competence and documented assessments and agreed plans.
  • Discussed options and follow-up arrangements with patients, checking their understanding.
  • Coordinated with colleagues to support continuity of care and clear handovers.
  • Contributed to [practice improvement], explaining the issue identified and the change implemented.

Make experience specific to the vacancy

State whether you worked in a private practice, public service or another environment. Describe relevant procedures through the work you actually performed, rather than listing every clinical keyword in the advertisement. Explain any supervision and the limits of your responsibility.

A practice improvement might involve clearer records, a better handover or more consistent follow-up. Define any figures you use and avoid unsupported claims about treatment success or patient retention. Keep commercial achievements separate from clinical quality.

Writing a graduate dentist resume

Lead with your degree and completion status, relevant placements and the feedback you applied. Include placement dates and hours where accurate and useful. Distinguish observing, assisting and performing a task; do not present all placement activities as independent practice.

List registration status, relevant training and professional development accurately. Mark pending applications as pending and follow the vacancy's requirements. A resume example is not evidence that a particular credential applies to your situation.

Show progression without changing past roles

Earlier dental assisting work can demonstrate teamwork and familiarity with a practice, but keep the original title. For applicants pursuing that separate role, see the dental assistant resume service. Your dentist application should clearly show when and where your responsibilities changed.
