Photographer resume example
A photographer resume should explain the work behind the images in your portfolio. Name the kinds of assignments you handle, your contribution and how you deliver against a brief. Select evidence for the vacancy: product, event, editorial and portrait work may call for different examples.
Illustrative example: the wording below is fictional, not a client resume. Replace the placeholders and use only statements you can support from your own work.
Profile
Photographer with experience creating [type of imagery] for [client or employer category]. Plans shoots against an agreed brief, manages image selection and editing, and delivers organised files to the required specification. Portfolio: [link to permitted work].
Selected assignment: Product range launch, [Employer or freelance practice]
- Clarified the required image list, formats and delivery dates with the client contact.
- Planned the setup and prepared equipment and products for the agreed shoot.
- Selected and edited images against the brief, incorporating the agreed feedback.
- Delivered the approved files using the requested naming and format conventions, with an organised archive for later retrieval.
Make your portfolio and resume agree
Use consistent project titles and dates, and identify your role in collaborative work. Say whether you photographed, assisted, retouched or directed. Link to a focused selection you have permission to share and check that a reviewer can open it without requesting access.
Label personal projects and test shoots clearly. They can demonstrate technical or creative skill without being presented as commissioned work. Do not publish private client material or claim another contributor's images as your own.
Structure freelance work clearly
Group assignments under an accurately labelled freelance or self-employed period, then select relevant projects. Keep employment and client relationships distinct. A short assignment entry can explain the brief, constraints, your work and the delivered result without creating a separate job for every shoot.
For an in-house role, prioritise evidence of repeatable workflow, coordination and reliable delivery. For editorial or event work, select examples that show how you handled the real assignment conditions within your responsibilities.
Show skills through delivery
Connect lighting, camera and editing skills with tasks you performed. A long equipment list is less useful than explaining how you created a consistent product set or prepared images for specified uses. Distinguish familiarity from regular professional use.
Use supported figures for assignments, turnaround or repeat bookings with the relevant period. Do not claim that images caused a client's sales growth without evidence. If you are starting out, combine labelled projects, assisting work and relevant customer-service experience. Keep photography separate from director-of-photography film roles unless your experience supports both.
