Are you looking at becoming a Rigger? They move heavy materials and equipment around worksites using rigging gear such as pulleys, cranes and winches. They assemble temporary structures like scaffolding on construction sites and move and assemble precast facades and panels on buildings under construction. Riggers enjoy practical work and working outdoors in a team environment. They are physically fit and safety conscious and are usually employed in the construction, mining, shipbuilding and manufacturing industries.
Currently, there are only 623 positions for a Rigger across Australia with a common salary of $80K per year. While it is an extremely competitive role to get into, The Perfect Resume team has helped others to land an interview in the Construction industry. We believe we can increase your chances with our resume writing services also!
To apply for a Rigger position, your resume will need to prove to recruiters and prospective employers that you will have the following transferable skills:
- Estimating the size and weight of objects to be moved and deciding on the appropriate equipment to be used.
- Erecting cranes and mobile crane booms and adjusting the height of tower cranes.
- Lifting, positioning and bolting components to build up the scaffolding.
- Attaching sling equipment to load to be lifted.
- Following workplace Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) procedures.
- Installing and operating cables, ropes, pulleys, winches and other lifting tackle.
- Inspecting, maintaining and repairing equipment.
- Lifting and erecting prefabricated panels made of steel, glass or concrete.
Due to the high volume of applications for a Rigger received every year, qualifications that would increase your chances of landing an interview include a Certificate III in Rigging (CPC30711). You may need to complete additional licences such as a Working at Heights ticket, Basic Fire ticket, Working in Confined Spaces ticket, Forklift Licence or HighRisk Work ticket.
