Security guard resume example
A security guard resume should show the sites or environments you have worked in, your responsibilities and your current credentials. Give evidence of observation, clear reporting and professional communication. Match the application to the advertised duties rather than assuming all security roles are the same.
Illustrative sample: this fictional example is for adaptation. Use only duties within your actual experience and authority, and replace the brackets.
Profile
Security guard with [length of experience] in [commercial, retail or other relevant setting]. Experienced in visitor access checks, scheduled patrols and factual incident reporting. Communicates calmly with visitors and colleagues and follows agreed escalation and handover procedures.
Experience
Security Guard — [Employer], [dates]
- Checked visitor access against site procedures and referred exceptions to the authorised contact.
- Completed assigned patrols, recorded observations and escalated identified concerns through the agreed reporting process.
- Prepared factual incident records and handed over outstanding matters to the incoming team.
Credentials and availability
[Current security licence type/category and issuing jurisdiction, where held]. [Relevant completed training, provider and date]. [Current first-aid training, if held]. Available [actual shifts/days]. Confirm the requirements for the particular role and location.
Security skills: replace claims with examples
- Observation: explain the checking or monitoring responsibility you performed.
- Reporting: describe accurate records, timely escalation and clear handovers.
- Communication: show how you explained a process, handled a difficult enquiry or sought assistance appropriately.
- Reliability: describe responsibility for agreed patrols, shift routines or opening/closing checks.
Keep client security arrangements confidential. A resume does not need patrol routes, access codes, vulnerabilities or identifying incident details. Explain your contribution without disclosing sensitive operational information.
Applying for your first security role
Customer service, hospitality and other shift-based work can demonstrate calm communication, following procedures and dependable handovers. Keep those roles under their real titles; do not present general customer service as licensed security experience.
An entry-level profile could say: “Customer service professional moving into security, with experience handling enquiries, recording issues and following closing procedures. Holds [accurate current credentials] and is available for [shifts].” Omit credentials you do not hold.
Match the job title to the actual duties
Employers may use security guard and security officer differently. Read the duties and requirements instead of changing your past titles. Site guarding, crowd control and specialist work should be supported by the relevant experience and credentials. Use a clear resume layout and check the employer's application instructions.
