Choose evidence from your practice area

Commercial, property, family and litigation support work involve different documents and workflows. Use the vacancy to decide which examples deserve space. Explain the task and your contribution in terms a hiring manager can understand without revealing the client's identity or privileged material.

“Maintained legal files” becomes more useful when you describe how you organised the information, checked completeness and helped the team retrieve it. Include document-management or matter-management systems you actually used, with context rather than an unexplained software list.

Write achievements without overstating responsibility

Use the sequence matter context, assigned task, check and contribution. A well-prepared chronology, a resolved document discrepancy or a complete filing bundle can demonstrate care and judgement. You do not need to claim a case win or attach a percentage to every bullet.

State whether you drafted a document for review, collated it or lodged it under instruction. Only include volumes or turnaround figures that you can support and disclose. Keep client names, case details and financial information within the boundaries of what you are authorised to share.

Graduate and entry-level paralegal resumes

Use placements, legal clinic work, research assignments and administrative experience where relevant. Label university exercises and volunteer work accurately. An academic research task can show source checking and concise writing; it should not be presented as advice delivered to a client.

Final application checks

Keep employment and study dates consistent. Explain unfinished qualifications accurately and use the job title you held. If the employer requests a cover letter, use it to connect one or two relevant examples to that practice's needs. Review spelling, document names and formatting carefully: accuracy should be visible in the application itself.
