Teacher resume writing support

A teacher resume should show the year levels or subjects you have taught, how you plan and assess learning, and the contribution you make to the school community. Professional writing support helps organise that evidence around a target role; the facts and examples must come from your own teaching.

Start with the school's application instructions. A resume, cover letter, statement and selection criteria response can be separate documents. Check your selected package before ordering and confirm any additional documents or deadline requirements.

Profile

Teacher with experience in [year levels/subjects] across [school settings]. Plans sequenced learning, uses assessment evidence to adjust instruction and works with colleagues and families to support student participation. Holds [actual qualification] and [accurate registration status, if applicable].

Classroom experience

[Actual title] — [School], [month/year–month/year]

  • Planned a [subject/topic] sequence using the relevant curriculum and adjusted activities after reviewing students' initial understanding.
  • Compared class work and assessment responses with a colleague to identify a learning gap and plan the next teaching step.
  • Used agreed classroom routines and differentiated resources to support participation across [accurate class context].
  • Communicated progress and next steps to families through the school's approved channels.

Qualifications and professional learning

List the qualification, institution and completion date. Record registration and relevant checks accurately, following the employer's instructions. Add professional learning with a short explanation of how you applied it, rather than a long list of unrelated courses.

What to send with your writing brief

  • The advertisement, position description and application instructions, including word or page limits.
  • Your current resume and accurate employment dates, including relief, contract and permanent work.
  • Year levels, subjects and curriculum contexts you have actually taught.
  • Two or three examples of planning, assessment, inclusion or collaboration, with the action you took and what you observed.
  • Any required documents, the closing date and your current qualification or registration details.

Use anonymised classroom examples. Do not send student names, reports or confidential school records to demonstrate an achievement. Where results were a team effort, describe your contribution and the evidence without taking credit for the whole school's performance.

Graduate and experienced teacher applications

For a graduate application, label placements as placements and explain the lessons, feedback and supervised responsibilities they involved. For an experienced role, select recent examples that fit the school's needs. A leadership application needs evidence of the leadership responsibilities you actually held; a classroom achievement does not automatically establish whole-school leadership.

A useful editing prompt is: What did I notice, what did I change, and what evidence helped me judge the result? If you cannot substantiate a percentage improvement, explain the observation and follow-up instead.
