Resume Examples for Australian Jobs: 3 Samples to Adapt

Choose a sample that fits your experience, then replace the wording with evidence from your own work, study or volunteering.

What are the examples of resumes that have landed an interview

Useful resume examples show both what to include and how to explain your experience. Below are three short Australian examples: a first-job applicant, an experienced professional and a career changer. Each includes a profile, evidence and a suggested structure you can adapt.

All examples are fictional teaching samples, not client resumes or hiring results. Copy the structure into your preferred document editor, replace the bracketed details and keep only claims you can support.

Which resume example fits your situation?

For senior leadership roles, use our executive resume example and template. For role-specific wording, explore the bank teller, nanny and cashier resume examples.

1. First-job resume example

[Your name]
[City or suburb, state] | [Phone] | [Professional email]

Profile

School leaver seeking a customer service role, with experience assisting at community events and completing team projects. Comfortable welcoming visitors, checking written instructions and asking questions when a task is unclear. Available [days and hours].

Relevant experience

Event volunteer — [Organisation], [dates]

  • Welcomed visitors, explained the event schedule and directed questions to the organising team.
  • Checked registration names against a list and flagged missing details before entry.
  • Worked with other volunteers to set up and pack away the information desk.

Education and skills

[Qualification or year level], [School], [completion or expected completion date]. Relevant skills: clear communication, following procedures, teamwork and [software or other skill you can demonstrate].

Why this structure works: the applicant has no paid work to list, but gives specific evidence of useful behaviour. The volunteer label makes the nature of the experience clear. If your strongest evidence is a study project, put that in the same position.

2. Experienced professional resume example

[Your name]
[City, state] | [Phone] | [Email] | [Relevant LinkedIn profile]

Profile

Office administrator with [length of experience] coordinating bookings, records and customer enquiries in [industry]. Experienced in maintaining shared schedules and tracking outstanding actions. Seeking a role supporting a busy team with accurate information and dependable follow-up.

Employment history

Office Administrator — [Employer], [dates]

  • Coordinated appointments for [number] team members and confirmed changes with customers before their visits.
  • Introduced a shared enquiry log so colleagues could identify outstanding requests and see who was handling them.
  • Checked supplier invoice details against purchase records and referred discrepancies for approval.

[Earlier relevant role] — [Employer], [dates]
[Two or three examples relevant to the job you want.]

Skills and education

[Systems you use confidently]; scheduling; record keeping; customer enquiries. [Relevant qualification, institution and date].

Why this structure works: recent work gets the most attention, and the bullets explain actions. Where reliable records exist, add the result and timeframe. Do not invent a productivity percentage to make a sensible process improvement sound larger.

3. Career-change resume example

[Your name]
[City, state] | [Phone] | [Email]

Profile

Retail supervisor moving into administration, bringing experience in rostering, stock records and customer issue resolution. Confident maintaining spreadsheets and coordinating daily priorities. Currently completing [relevant course, if applicable].

Relevant strengths

  • Scheduling: prepared weekly rosters, recorded availability and communicated agreed changes.
  • Records: maintained stock-count spreadsheets and investigated differences with the store manager.
  • Communication: documented customer enquiries and followed up actions across shifts.

Employment history

Retail Supervisor — [Employer], [dates]
[Brief role scope and additional evidence relevant to the target job.]

Education and development

[Completed qualification, provider, date]. [Current study, provider, expected completion date].

Why this structure works: the profile explains the transition, and the examples translate existing experience without changing the applicant's real job title. Employment dates remain visible. Avoid a skills-only document that leaves the reader guessing when or where you used a skill.

A simple resume structure to copy

  1. Contact details: name, phone, email and relevant location or profile link.
  2. Profile: your relevant experience, strongest evidence and target role.
  3. Employment or relevant experience: role, organisation, dates and evidence bullets, with the most recent first.
  4. Education and training: accurate qualification names, providers and completion status.
  5. Relevant skills: a concise selection supported by your examples.

For a first job, education or projects may come before employment. Follow the employer's page limit and file instructions. Use readable text and consistent headings; do not reduce everything to tiny print just to meet a self-imposed one-page limit.

How to adapt an example to a job advertisement

Pick three important requirements in the advertisement. For each, find an example from your work, study or volunteering. Write what you did, the setting and the outcome you can substantiate. Then move the most relevant evidence towards the top of the document.

Replace “excellent team player” with an action, such as coordinating a handover or completing a shared task. Use the employer's terminology where it accurately describes your experience. Keep actual job titles, qualifications and dates correct.
