Your resume explains your experience; your portfolio shows selected work. Make the connection easy to follow with a working portfolio link, relevant design tools and a concise description of your contribution to each project. A striking layout alone does not explain what you did.

Make your portfolio useful to the reader

• Link to a small selection relevant to the vacancy, with access permissions checked.
• State whether a project was paid, collaborative, academic or self-directed.
• Credit collaborators and distinguish your contribution from the team's work.
• Use only client work you are permitted to share; remove confidential information.

If a project has no measured commercial outcome, explain the completed brief and design decisions. Do not attribute a campaign's entire sales result to its visual design without evidence.

Software skills and resume format

Name tools you can use and the tasks you performed with them, such as preparing print artwork or building digital assets. A list of software logos or a five-star proficiency score gives little context. Include relevant education and training without letting it crowd out stronger project evidence.

Junior designer applications

Student briefs and personal projects can show your process before you have client work. Label them honestly and describe how you interpreted a brief, responded to critique and completed the deliverables. Present your actual level of experience rather than borrowing a senior designer's profile.
